What does Cochilco stand for?
Cochilco is the Chilean Copper Commission.
 

 

When was it created?
Cochilco was established on 1 April 1976 under Executive Decree 1349.
 

 

What does it do?
Cochilco safeguards the government interest in Chile’s publicly-owned mining companies. It advises them on deployment of development strategies and performance targets and reviews compliance with same so as to ensure proper discharge of corporate mandates and use of public funds.
 
   

 

What is its mission?
Cochilco advises the government in the development, implementation and oversight of policy, strategy and initiatives enhancing sustainable development of the Chilean mining sector and its contribution to the overall economy. In addition, Cochilco safeguards the government interest in Chile’s publicly-owned mining companies by reviewing and evaluating their operations and investment decisions.
 
   

 

What are its strategic goals?
. Cochilco provides studies, research and reports contributing to the formulation, implementation and oversight of policies assisting in sustainable mining sector development and in consolidating its contribution to the country as a whole.
∙ It also generates public, timely, reliable statistics, information and analysis designed to further market transparence and facilitate informed decision-making by both public and private sector players.
∙ In addition, Cochilco represents Chilean government interests before domestic and international agencies and forums of relevance to the sustainable development of Chilean mining.
∙ Lastly, Cochilco safeguards government interests in publicly-owned mining companies by conducting audits and assessments, reviewing operations and investments, and reporting on same to senior company management. In addition, it advises the Ministries of Mines and Finance on company budget development and review.
 

 

Who are the people behind Cochilco?
Cochilco is staffed by about ninety administrators, economists, engineers, geologists, attorneys and journalists who stand committed to quality and efficiency.
